Recently the Cold Creek Trout Pond was upgraded and restocked with Rainbow Trout. This initiative was led by Wayne Mayan, Project Manager on behalf of the Hinton Fish and Game Association, and recently retired planner from Hinton Wood Products’ Woodlands department. West Fraser Mills Ltd. was also involved in the improvement of the Cold Creek Trout Pond. The Cold Creek Trout Pond is known historically as the Hinton Borrow Pit. During the construction of Highway 40, the Department of Highways removed fill from this location resulting in the “Borrow Pit”. Water from underground springs filled this borrow pit and in 1986 Alberta Sustainable Resource Development and the Hinton Fish and Game Association began stocking the pond yearly with rainbow trout. Recently, a number of upgrades were carried out on the Pond. For example, the south side adjacent the pond was landscaped and seeded with grass this spring. Berms were constructed, cement barricades and signs put in place so to keep motorized vehicles within the parking area. In May, 300 Rainbow Trout were released into the Cold Creek Trout Pond. Hinton now has a beautiful trout pond for anglers of all ages to enjoy.
